I’ve given my own review of Twilight on my blog and I’m hoping that the appointment of Chris Weisz as director will improve the adaptation of the next couple of books to the screen.

I’m a huge fan of the books and though I know that they’re not well written, she knows how to tell a story and suck you in emotionally. Love Edward, love Jacob and I so want to read the rest of Midnight Sun, if she ever writes it. (It’s so much more interesting being in Edward’s head rather than Bella’s)

Anyway, I’m in Australia so I haven’t seen True Blood yet, though I’ve been salivating for it since I first heard about it online. Ryan Kwanten is an ex-teen soapie heartthrob from the Aussie Home and Away and I can’t quite match the images of him now with the images of him then. I think True Blood starts in January here on pay TV and then the 3rd season of Dexter in February.

Ooh, I’m already looking forward to 2009!

Loved Angel…LOL to the L&O Undead Squad!

Twilight the book, although not particularly well written was an enjoyable read…if you looked past some of the above mentioned themes.

The movie was poorly scripted and poorly directed leaving the actors not much to work with. Too much wasted screen time devoted to twirly overhead shots with no dialogue to enhance the story or relationships.

I have to admit, I’ve read the Twilight series and liked them ok. I would have to echo what Roxane said about some of the themes. I too work with teenagers. But I REALLY love True Blood! My BF and I usually record them and watch them during theweek, while drinking a bottle of Vampire wine. I am going to order the Sookie books as a gift for myself for Christmas. Bill is so….HOT…

I love True Blood…as # crunchy stated, Sookie is pretty annoying but Bill…now he gets me all hot and bothered! That drawl…Whew!

As for the Twilight saga. I read the series and went to see the film. I read the series initially because I work as a therapist with teens and Twilight really is all the rage amongst the young-uns’. I enjoyed it but was really concerned about a lot of the themes…particularly the “If I can’t be with you I want to die” theme and the “creepy, stalker boyfriends are sexy” theme. This prompted me to talk with several of my colleagues so we could approach these subjects with the kids we work with.

The movie was fun enough, but only if you have read the books and pretend you are a 13 year old in the throes of puberty.

Anyhow, I too, am going through True Blood withdrawals…what to do in the meantime? Maybe I’ll indulge in the books you mentioned, but where to hide? I have no barn…

yah.while sooke annoys the shit outta me….I am enjoying the show a lot..

Haven’t enjoyed vamps since Angel really….

And while I am happy that the book is popular with teens..I am a tad ashamed to see formerly intelligent ‘mom bloggers, etc.’ all heading to watch Twilight and rave about the books….ick…
